To confirm this claim, I contacted Shell and received a response stating that the formulation for Rotella T4 15W40 was upgraded to a synthetic blend in January of this year (2021).

WEBOct 21, 2021 · The only issues I have being an OTR driver is there seems to be a huge price difference in getting the T5 and T6 oil changes compared to T4. It seems to average about $175-$225 more for the higher grade synthetics compared to T4.

WEBOct 23, 2009 · So, with all this in mind, I shot them an email. The following is their response: Mr. Wickerham, Rotella T 5w-40 meets both the API CJ-4 and SM specifications. It can therefore be used in Gasoline as well as diesel engines. We do not recommend for use in engines with catalytic converters that require ILSAC GF-4 specifications.

WEBAug 10, 2021 · The Rotella is not JASO certified and per Shell according to their inhouse testing they say it meets the spec. I use Valvoline Full Synthetic Motorcycle oil in my Ninja 650 that calls for 10w40, they also make it in 20w50, at Walmart they are selling it at $7.37 qt which is a steal right now.

WEBJul 2, 2007 · No, Shell Rotella T Triple Protection Oil SAE 15W-40 has not been reformulated. We had tested the product against the JASO MA requirements several years ago, but never against the JASO MA2 requirements. Further testing has confirmed that the product does, indeed, meet JASO MA2.
