The Ellen Eccles Theatre is an active historic theatre where more than 100 performances occur every year. From community theater productions to touring Broadway musicals, and from stand-up comedy to dance, the Ellen Eccles Theatre hosts it all. The Ellen Eccles Theatre first opened in 1923 as the Capitol Theatre following the destruction of the Thatcher Opera House in a fire in 1912. Decades later, after use as both a performance hall and a movie theatre, the space had fallen into disrepair. In 1989, a group of citizens led by Michael Ballam oversaw the renovation of the theatre to its former glory. Today, the theatre is owned by the city of Logan, UT, and managed by the independent nonprofit Cache Valley Center for the Arts.
