A tour of Longue Vue House and Gardens is, by far, one of the best things to do in New Orleans. Lizzie was our guide, and she was magnificent! Her manner of presentation was flawless! Her knowledg…Full review by NOLALady1

Also, Longview Gardens, while on the Metairie Bus, is on the Left side of Metairie Road as you approach the Canal, and you can see the Road that is the Entry into the Long View Mansion. Be certain the bus driver knows where you are trying to go and he will cooperate.

I would suggest not to, its not that long of a distance, maybe 2 or 3 miles, so you might be looking at a 6 mile round trip to walk, but you are walking along an area of City Park Avenue with a narrow walkway close to the street, which I think is dangerous. Also, you are walking under an Interstate Intersection as well as a couple of heavily travelled intersections, Canal Street, and Orleans Avenue. If you do this during daylight hours, you should be OK, but you are taking a risk, not saying its a high crime area, but I would not do it. Take a Cab, UBER, Lift, whatever, but you want to go home safe, not sorry. Just as a general rule, when I travel, if I plan on walking someplace, and I don't see people on the street or sidewalk, I turn around and don't walk down that street.

The Docent-led tour of the Main House lasts approximately 45 minutes. Tours begin at the top of every hour. The last tour of the day begins at 4:00 pm Visitors explore the gardens at their own pace and garden access is included in the admission price. The gardens are extensive -- eight acres, nine "garden rooms", fourteen fountains -- so a minimum of one hour should be planned.
