How much time should be allowed for the visit? We will be visiting the Basketball Hall of Fame and would like to see if a day trip to Springfield would allow for both visits.

Easily done. I am a reader, saw the movies, and was still done in 4. They run tours that point out certain highlights - catch one of those and walk around and you could finish up in two!
