Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller has drawn some interest from a handful of teams ahead of the MLB trade deadline, and another World Series-contending club reportedly is eyeing him.
General manager Brian Cashman said last week he planned to shop for a starting pitcher before the July 31 trade deadline. That was before a blister popped up on Max Fried’s left index finger, putting his first start after the All-Star break in jeopardy. Simply put: The Yankees need rotation help.
Of most immediate concern is the status of Max Fried’s blister. The Yankees are going nowhere if they don’t have Fried atop their rotation, but it is still not clear whether the left-hander will need an IL stint because of the blister issue that popped up in Saturday’s start and has cost him time in the past.
A few guesses on the home run race, the trade deadline and a surprising regular season finish for the Yankees.
Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez has made a career out of demolishing Cubs pitching. He’s hit 36 home runs (of his career total of 307 against the Cubs, including five this year. Four of those came in the first three games of his season back in March at Chase Field.
