On a trip to Argentina to play in a farewell match for Juan Martín del Potro, Novak Djokovic explained why he hired former rival Andy Murray after being without a coach for six months.

Djokovic announced this past week that Murray would join his team as a coach at least through the 2025 Australian Open.

Novak and Andy fought for the year-end no. 1 honor in 2016 until the final match. Murray defeated Djokovic in the ATP Finals title clash, securing his only year-end no. 1 season. Both players entered the ATP 250 event in Doha at the beginning of 2017 and reached the final.

Djokovic split with his coach after six years earlier this summer, and he's counting on Andy Murray to help him prepare for the Australian Open.

"It’s time for one of my toughest opponents to step into my corner. Welcome on board, Coach — Andy Murray,” Djokovic said

Recently retired Andy Murray is going to team up with Novak Djokovic, working with him as a coach through the Australian Open in January.
