An off-duty Chicago police officer exchanged gunfire with armed offenders overnight in the Washington Park neighborhood on the city’s South Side, police say. According to police, the off-duty officer was confronted by an armed offender around 1:45 a.

Chicago police said that just before 2 a.m., the officer was confronted by an armed person in the 100 block of East 57th Street, and the two exchanged gunfire.

The officer was confronted by a gunman about 1:50 a.m. in the 100 block of East 57th Street and both fired, Chicago police said. No injuries were reported.
