The Manipur government ordered the closure of schools and colleges in Imphal West and East until November 19 amid a curfew being imposed in these two restive districts. The decision was taken in consultation with the Home Department of the state government.

The Manipur government has imposed a curfew in Imphal West and Imphal East amid rising violence. Security has also been beefed up around the residences of Chief Minister N Biren Singh and at Raj Bhavan.

Violence erupted in Manipur on May 3 last year following clashes during a rally organised by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) to protest against the demand for the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category. (ANI)
