The funeral details have been announced for showband legend Dickie Rock following his death aged 88 over the weekend.

Showband singer and former Eurovision contestant for Ireland Dickie Rock has died at the age of 88. He was one of the biggest stars of Ireland’s popular showband scene as a member of the Miami Showband and later as a solo artist, with a career spanning seven decades. His family confirmed his death in a statement on Friday evening.

Rock represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1966, where he placed joint fourth alongside Belgium. A statement from Dickie’s children said they were ‘saddened to confirm that he passed away peacefully’ on Friday, December 6. The statement said: ‘His children, Jason, John, Richard, Sarah Jane and Peter will miss him very much.

Dickie Rock’s funeral will take place in Dublin on Thursday. The showband legend died at the age of 88 at St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin on Friday, over two years after the death of his wife Judy in April 2022.
