Iskcon has remained in the headlines since the arrest of its former member Chinmoy Krishna Das last week on sedition charges in Bangladesh. The religious organisation’s spokesperson in Kolkata has claimed at least three other Hindu monks have been arrested by the Bangladesh police.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is struggling in Bangladesh after the arrest of its former member, Chinmoy Krishna Das. Das was arrested on sedition charges, triggering protests and clashes with security forces. The Hindu community has been worst hit by the development.

Amid growing tensions, dozens of ISKCON members have been denied permission to cross into India by Bangladesh Immigration despite valid passports and visas.

The authorities cited "suspicious travel" as the reason for their refusal, although the ISKCON monks were not provided with clear explanations.

Sixty-three Bangladeshi Iskcon monks with valid travel documents were prevented from entering India at the Benapole border by Bangladeshi authorities over 'suspicious activities'. This move coincides with global protests by Iskcon devotees against the alleged persecution in Bangladesh.

On Friday, a Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said India has conveyed its concern over the attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh and pressed for a “fair and transparent trial” for Chinmoy Krishna Das.

Bangladesh border authorities said they received instructions from higher authorities to deny entry to 54 members of the Hindu spiritual organization Iskcon into India.

"We strongly protest such arrests and appeal to the Bangladesh government to give protection to minorities,” claimed Radharamn Das, the vice-president and spokesperson of ISKCON.
