Newport News Shipbuilding said it’s discovered that faulty welds may have knowingly been made to submarines and aircraft carriers under construction at the shipyard. Newport News Shipbuilding President Jennifer Boykin made the announcement on Friday afternoon,
Faulty welding on subs and aircraft carriers at NNS may have been intentionally done
"Some of the welds in question were made by welders who knowingly violated weld procedures," Boykin wrote. NNS contacted the Department of Justice and regulators about the issue, and engineers were able to put in place immediate short-term solutions while figuring out the next moves for long-term solutions.
