KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday said it would hear the CBI, the victim's family and the convict before deciding on the admission of an appeal filed by the West Bengal government claiming inadequacy of sentence given by a trial court in the RG Kar hospital rape-murder case.

Judge Anirban Das said crime did not fall under “rarest of the rare” category as justification for not giving death penalty to Sanjay Roy.

The Calcutta High Court today, Tuesday, January 21, granted permission to the West Bengal government to file an appeal against the Sealdah court's order regarding the RG Kar convict's sentencing, reported PTI.

In its verdict, the court reprimanded the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital authorities for covering the murder as a “suicide”.
