A bench of justice M Nagaprasanna passed the order on a petition filed by BJP member Nalin Kumar Kateel, who is also one of the accused and has challenged the criminal complaint.

The Karnataka High Court has granted interim relief to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman by staying an investigation related to electoral bonds, stemming from allegations of extortion and conspiracy.

The Karnataka High Court on Monday stayed further investigation against Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and other top BJP leaders in a case linked to now-scrapped poll bonds scheme.

Priyank Kharge, the Karnataka Minister, called for Sitharaman's resignation on Sunday, alleging that companies suffering significant losses have made substantial donations to the BJP through the electoral bond scheme. He pointed out the court had established valid grounds for the police to file an FIR against Sitharaman and others.

Besides Union Ministers Nadda and Sitharaman, FIR named the Enforcement Directorate (ED), BJP Karnataka president B Y Vijayendra and senior leader Naleen Kumar Kateel.

A case was registered on Saturday against Sitharaman and others on the directions of a special court, following a complaint relating to the scheme.
