Ten inmates were discovered missing during a routine head count, the sheriff's office said. Two have since been found.

Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson says there are indications that the 10 people who escaped from a New Orleans jail received help in their escape from people in the department.

The sheriff warned the public Friday not to engage with or approach the inmates, who should be considered armed and dangerous.
