The Union City Police Department is investigating a double shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon, the department announces. At 1:57 p.m. on Saturday, Union City police officers responded to the 1800 block of Whipple Road for the report of a shooting.

Investigators have yet to announce any arrests in the shooting, which happened shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday in a parking lot off Whipple Road.

A man and a woman are in the hospital Sunday morning after a house explosion near Weddington, North Carolina. Emergency officials in Union County say that they were called to the home around 9 a.m. after numerous reports of a large explosion.

Several fire departments rushed to a home on Steeple Chase Circle in Weddington on Sunday morning in response to reports of a home explosion and house fire, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.
