When Christina Corpus won voters’ support to become San Mateo County’s first Latina sheriff, she vowed to end the “pass-downs and political favors” she said dictated control of the department and carry out a reform agenda to “move our law enforcement agency to the 21st century.”

Embattled San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus brushed aside recommendations to resign on Wednesday, instead opting to promote Chief of Staff Victor Aenlle, she said at a county meeting. An internal report published Tuesday found Corpus and Aenlle to have an intimate relationship.
