The Trump administration plan to withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization has triggered a hiring freeze, suspended investments and a travel reduction within the organization.

The World Health Organization is freezing hiring, suspending investments and cutting non-essential travel in response to US President Donald Trump’s decision to take the US out of the global body.

It means some open jobs at the Audie Murphy VA Hospital and military hospitals such as Wilford Hall and Brooke Army Medical Center will go unfilled.

The hiring freeze ordered by Trump specifies that "no Federal civilian position that is vacant at noon on January 20, 2025, [to] be filled" for 90 days. This period will last past the typical April 15 tax filing deadline, and on top of that, the order singled out the IRS for an indefinite hiring freeze.

Trump’s freeze this time around is set to expire after 90 days, though agencies will first have to submit plans—in consultation with OMB and Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency—to permanently reduce their rolls through efficiencies and attrition. The Internal Revenue Service will face a longer freeze, per Trump’s order.
