While many assumed the New Orleans Saints restructuring Derek Carr's contract essentially guaranteed that Carr will remain New Orleans' starting quarterback for at least one more season, not everyone is convinced that is the case.

Last season with the Saints, which was his second, Carr played in 10 games where he missed some time due to a hand injury as he threw for 2,145 yards to go along with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions. New Orleans finished with a 5-12 record, which put them at the bottom of the NFC South standings.

In a prior podcast, we estimated that cutting Carr would have required 16 other moves for the Saints to get under the salary cap. Nine of those moves would have been restructured contracts with at least four of those players being over 30 years old. It likely would have required more if they wanted to make even small moves in free agency.
