Four people died after violence broke out in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal after a trial court allowed the survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid following claims that it was built by destroying a Hindu temple.

Ahmadi contended that 10 suits were pending across the length and breadth of the country. The modus operandi was that on the first day only, the surveyor was appointed, he added. Ahmadi sought a stay on the Sambhal court order on the grounds that the trial court order had the potential to cause ‘great mischief’.

The plea has sought an ex-parte stay on the operation of the November 19 order passed by the civil judge.

The Supreme Court will hear on Friday, a petition filed by the Sambhal Shahi Jama Masjid Committee, challenging the survey of Shahi Jama Masjid at Chandausi. The matter will be heard by the Bench of Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar.
