STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Monday is Labor Day, and not only is it the unofficial end of summer, but it is the day we set aside each year to honor the contributions of American workers.

Federal beaches are open on Labor day and will remain open all year long. Gateway National Recreation Area at Great Kills will have lifeguards on duty through Labor Day at 6 p.m.

Investors will enjoy a long weekend, with both the stock and bond markets closed on Monday for Labor Day.
