Cher is looking back on her complicated relationship with Sonny Bono. In her new book Cher: The Memoir, Part 1, out Tuesday, Nov. 19, the entertainment legend opens up about the downfall of their marriage.

The pop icon wrote in her new memoir that she struggled mentally after her marriage to Sonny Bono became "loveless."

"Half the things are his, half the things are mine. It didn't occur to me that there was another way," the legendary singer says

I figured I’d plead insanity … Then I’d get a book deal and my own show,” Cher alleges Sonny told her after admitting to thinking about killing her.

Cher has always been supportive of her son Chaz Bono’s gender identity — and she’s making no exception in her memoir. According to The New York Times, the pop legend makes a disclaimer toward the front of Cher: The Memoir,

Cher was financially deceived by her then-husband, Sonny Bono, the legendary singer reveals in the first volume of her memoir. “He took all my money,” the 78-year-old told The New York Times in an interview about the book, adding that she was not immediately aware of her financial situation and that she trusted Bono at the time.

At the time, Cher – born Cherilyn Sarkisian – was in the process of divorcing Bono and nearing the end of their star-making variety show, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, which was cancelled due to their split in 1974.
