In 2009, another large wildfire hit Horry County, where it burned more than 19,000 acres. Seven years later, the largest mountain wildfire in South Carolina's history ignited and burned more than 10,600 acres in Table Rock State Park after a campfire grew out of control.

In the Carolinas, wildfires have set 11,314 acres ablaze, and two of the biggest fires in North Carolina are responsible for at least half of that. Both South Carolina and North Carolina have issued burn bans to help mitigate future flames, according to media advisories.

South Carolina holds a 6-1 record all-time against the Terrapins. The two teams have met in the NCAA Tournament just once, and that came when USC beat Maryland 86-75 in the Elite Eight of the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
