The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday confirmed the country's first case of H5N1 bird flu infection in a child, who experienced mild symptoms and is recovering from their illness.

Investigation into the child's exposure to H5N1 is still under way, the CDC said. In other H5N1 developments, the Hawaii State Department of Health yesterday said tests in people who had contact with an infected flocks are all negative, even in those who had high-risk exposure.

A teenager in British Columbia, Canada has been hospitalized with a presumed case of H5N1 bird flu, the first detected human case in the country in the current outbreak.
