Lionsgate, the studio behind popular films series’ like The Hunger Games and John Wick, recently announced it’s letting a startup mine its catalog works with the goal of creating an AI model capable of creating storyboards and other pre- and post-production work.

Runway, a startup developing AI video tools, including video-generating systems, has inked a deal with Lionsgate to develop a custom model.

Lionsgate has struck a partnership with artificial intelligence company Runway that will see the latter create and train a new AI model on the US studio's catalogue of film and TV titles.

Runway will use Lionsgate's vast catalog to train a model that the studio's filmmakers can then use to help make new content.

The Lionsgate deal establishes how AI is rapidly becoming an important tool throughout the filmmaking process, from initial conceptualization to final post-production.
