The CBS News New York First Alert Weather Team is watching for the potential of a storm that may disrupt travel plans in the Tri-State Area on Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

"Heavy coastal and mountain rain may lead to instances of flash flooding, particularly over the windward foothills of the southern Sierra Nevada below 8,000 feet, where excessive rainfall may cause land/rock/mudslides," the NWS said in a forecast Tuesday morning.

Forecasters through the U.S. issued warnings that another round of winter weather could complicate travel leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday, while California and Washington state continue to recover from storm damage and power outages.

The National Weather Service has issued a series of winter weather advisories across the country as an estimated 80 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles from their homes to celebrate Thanksgiving later this week.

Snow and rain are in the forecast for some parts of the U.S. as travelers hit the road and head to the airport for Thanksgiving.

Winter storm weather is forecast to bring snow to different parts of the country in the days around Thanksgiving 2024, potentially interrupting travel.
