A violent, tornado-spawning storm system tore across the central US, leaving at least 25 people dead in Missouri and southeastern Kentucky as it cut a path of destruction through several states.

At least 27 people have been killed after a series of powerful tornadoes tore through multiple states on Friday, according to the Associated Press. In Kentucky, at least 18 people were killed by severe weather.

Another round of potentially severe storms is expected Sunday evening. These will be more isolated than Saturday. The timing is a bit later, mainly from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of east central Wise and central Denton counties through 5:30 p.

Severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep North Texas over the weekend, bringing potential large hail and damaging winds to the region. There is a low tornado threat. On Friday evening, forecasters say scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of a stalled front.

There will be a few more rounds of storms before a cold front arrives Tuesday, May 20, bringing pleasant conditions.
