The New England Patriots fired Bill Belichick's successor Jerod Mayo after just one season with reports emerging that the head coach might have lost the locker room with players being unhappy

Instead, that power dynamic lasted one year, strained their relationship and divided a staff and made casualties of a Patriots team that sunk to historic lows in 2023. So exit Belichick, enter Mayo, and despite the fact he matched Belichick's 4-13 record last season, Mayo met the same fate Sunday because losing is always the symptom.

While many assumed that Mayo would get a second season with the Patriots, the team has continued its downward spiral since its Week 14 bye, causing a "shift" in the organization over the last month.

I think Kraft did what was best for the team it was a hard decision, I commend him for that and I’m here to stick by the team.”

The Patriots still have officially fired only Mayo, and Kraft said the new coach will decide what to do with this season’s last year’s staff.
