The health systems plan to open an unspecified number of campuses in the coming months to expand care access and reduce wait times for services.

The partnership comes just weeks after state regulators denied Novant Health's application for a Triangle hospital, a setback in the Winston-Salem system's mission to become the largest provider in the Carolinas.

The buildings are expected to open in around eight years and will cost anywhere from $2 to $3 billion.
