Mexican Authorities Seize Fentanyl-Stuffed Cactus Boxes

Mexico sent 10,000 troops to stop fentanyl. It remains elusive.Troops in Nogales, Mexico, have found 150 fentanyl pills, according to official statistics. Meanwhile, U.S. officials across the border have seized more than 400,000.
President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico took steps sought by President Trump, including sending troops to the border and cracking down on drug cartels. The tariffs went into effect anyway.
After a call with President Sheinbaum, Trump announced that most Mexico imports will not be subject to tariffs until at least early April.
U.S. President Donald Trump imposed on March 4 a 25 percent tariff on Mexican and Canadian imports and also raised tariffs to 20 percent on China. Trump had threatened tariffs over problems with the border, such as the trafficking of drugs like fentanyl.
President Claudia Sheinbaum’s government made major concessions — and delivered results — to avert President Trump’s 25 percent tariffs. He imposed them anyway.
The bill does not link tariffs to fentanyl smuggling but seeks expanded authority to sanction state-owned or state-controlled Chinese entities, including banks, involved in financing foreign opioid trafficking. The measure also would have the U.S. government track more chemicals that can be used to make methamphetamines.
