This is the last week of a truly shitty Atlantic hurricane season. It was record-breaking. People are still recovering. Misinformation managed to make things even worse. Now, we get a six-month-ish break before it starts over again — perhaps with fewer federal resources to respond in the US.

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is set to wrap up on Nov. 30. It was originally pitched as a “supercharged” year, with forecasters predicting as many as 20-25 named storms. An unprecedented lull at the beginning of the season spared us from the full extent of those predictions after a bout of Saharan dust played a substantial role in curbing storm development in the Atlantic through August.

The last day of Atlantic hurricane season is November 30 and it is unlikely we will add any more activity this year. On average, the Atlantic hurricane season has 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes.
