Microsoft Corp., trying to mitigate the climate impact of its data center building boom, is starting to roll out a new design that uses zero water to cool the facilities’ chips and servers.

Microsoft Corp. has previewed a new data center design that will significantly reduce the amount of water necessary to cool its servers. Steve Solomon, the company’s vice president of data center infrastructure engineering, detailed the technology in a Monday blog post.
