The family of Maria Pike and her baby Destinii Hope rallied outside of Independence Police headquarters Sunday and demanded transparency from investigators. Independence Police released highly-edited footage of the incident last week.

Family members of Maria Pike, 34, and Destinii Hope, two months old, continue their search for accountability nearly one month after the two were shot and killed by an Independence police officer.

The Independence Police Department released body camera footage and context of what they say led up to a deadly police shooting earlier this month.

Independence has not named the officer who fatally shot Maria Pike and her daughter Destinii Hope, after police responded to a domestic disturbance call on Nov. 7, 2024. The body camera footage shows just three minutes from the 20-minute incident.

If they would have went over there, done their job, the outcome would have been different. I know it would have. It wouldn’t have escalated to this.”
