It comes after a winter storm last week brought snow, sleet and freezing rain to north Georgia. Some ice is still visible as it continues to thaw.

The remnants of last week’s winter storm are still causing icy conditions in the North Georgia mountains, prompting several of those school districts to close or go virtual. Here is our full list of closures: Habersham County Schools will be closed on Wednesday.

While most of the ice from the weekend has gradually melted, a few school districts in north Georgia are giving it another day for their back roads to clear up.

ATLANTA - Winter weather gripped North Georgia on Friday, leaving behind snow, ice, and treacherous road conditions. As temperatures continued to plummet Saturday night, freezing rain and refreeze on roads posed significant hazards, closing out the weekend.

Several schools in North Carolina and Georgia remain closed or have switched to virtual learning on January 15 as icy roads and lingering cold temperatures continue to pose safety risks for commuters and students.
