NATO members have provided diplomatic and military aid support to Ukraine throughout the ongoing war after Russia invaded the nation in February 2022.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said on Sunday that Moscow's revised nuclear weapons doctrine is needed because NATO infrastructure is approaching Russia's borders ever more closely. Peskov told Russian state television that Western powers are seeking victory over Russia through their arms deliveries to Ukraine.

Nuclear doctrine specifies how countries with atomic weapons intend to use their arsenal. Restrictions on the use of nuclear weapons make it difficult for Vladimir Putin to treat them as a useful deterrent.
