Actor Tony Roberts, a frequent collaborator with filmmaker and playwright Woody Allen, has died at the age of 85. His daughter Nicole Burley told The New York Times he died at his Manhattan home Friday after a battle with lung cancer.

Roberts had a genial stage personality perfect for musical comedy, and he originated roles in Broadway musicals like “How Now, Dow Jones" and “Sugar," an adaptation of the movie “Some Like It Hot."

The son of a famous radio announcer, the 'Annie Hall' and 'Play It Again, Sam' actor stepped in for Robert Redford in 'Barefoot in the Park.'
