Californians traveling at LAX or the San Francisco International Airport can skip pulling out a physical ID and instead use their phone.

Californians with iPhones and Apple Watches will now be able to store digital versions of their driver's licenses and identification cards on their devices, state officials announced.

California joins Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, and Ohio in supporting IDs in Apple Wallet. Elsewhere, Japan has pledged to add its My Number Card to the Wallet app, which will mark “the first international expansion of IDs in Wallet,” according to Apple.

Apple today announced that California residents can now add their driver’s licenses and state IDs to Apple Wallet, while Montana, New Mexico, and West Virginia have also signed on to adopt IDs in Wallet.

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office on Thursday announced that the state now offers residents the chance to securely add their California driver’s license or state-issued ID to Apple Wallet on their iPhone and Apple Watch. Residents can then use this feature at select businesses and TSA checkpoints at airports in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
