PENOBSCOT COUNTY, Maine — A person from Penobscot County has tested presumptive positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).

Maine health officials say a Penobscot County resident became severely ill in early October and remains hospitalized.

This year EEE was found in 20 samples, and West Nile virus was found in 16 samples. There was one confirmed case of human EEE and six confirmed human cases of West Nile virus.
