A bench, led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar, ordered the Allahabad High Court to address the Muslim side's petition within three working days of its filing. The bench advised the Muslim petitioners to challenge the district court's order in the High Court and scheduled a hearing for the week beginning January 6.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday ordered a judicial probe into the Sambhal violence case, a day before the Supreme Court is set to hear a plea against the Mosque survey order.

The plea noted that the survey has triggered communal tensions in the region and it should be halted as soon as possible.
