Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government to resign on Tuesday after the country's military chief quit over the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack.

Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi said the Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreed last week meant now was the right time to leave his post.

The Chief of General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Herzi Halevi, has resigned. The general took responsibility for the events of October 7th, the day of the attack on Israel by Hamas fighters. The Israeli military announced the commander's resignation.
