The Detroit Tigers are out of luck with six of their prospects as they lost a couple of players, while only selecting one, in the Rule 5 draft. The yearly Rule 5 draft allows MLB teams the opportunity to select players that have been in the minor league systems of another team for a few years.

Catcher Liam Hicks, acquired just five months ago in the Carson Kelly trade, was selected by the Miami Marlins, while infielder Gage Workman was picked by the Chicago Cubs. For the second straight year, the Tigers opted not to make any selections.

The Chicago Cubs had a fairly busy afternoon due to the 2024 Rule 5 Draft with six players now changing teams. After making one move in the Major League portion of the draft, most of the action came from the minor league rounds.
