NBA Hall of Fame center and global ambassador Dikembe Mutombo, known for his "infectious smile, his deep booming voice and signature finger wag," died Monday from brain cancer at the age of 58.

Dikembe Mutombo spent 18 seasons in the NBA, playing for Denver, Atlanta, Houston, Philadelphia, New York and the then-New Jersey Nets.

Mutombo spent his retirement on humanitarian causes. He spoke nine languages and founded the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation, concentrating on improving the quality of life for people in the Congo.
