Four men were killed in the firing that ensued in UP’s Sambhal on Sunday after the community protested conducting a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid ordered by a civil court after a petition claimed the mosque was erstwhile the site of a temple.

The unrest, marked by stone-pelting and a police baton-charge, resulted in four fatalities and injuries to 21 individuals.

Prohibitory orders are in place near the Shahi Jama Masjid in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal after violence broke out on Sunday following an ASI survey of the Mughal-era mosque. The district administration issued orders barring entry of outsiders till November 30 in the area after three people were killed in the violence.
