Beginning May 7, 2025, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will require a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another federally approved form of identification to board domestic flights. Dan Casey, Commissioner of the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles, is urging residents to act quickly.

Louisiana travelers might need to plan for extra time at security if they are not REAL ID compliant by May 7, 2025.

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles is reminding you to make sure you’re Real ID ready before next year’s deadline.

Officials are gathering at the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport on Tuesday, Nov. 19 to talk about the need to be REAL ID ready.

Starting May 7, you will need to upgrade your ID to a Real ID in order to board a flight. Dan Casey, the commissioner of the Office of Motor Vehicles, said just a small percentage of those without Real ID would represent a lot of travelers.
