The United States government has revoked its designation of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham as a foreign terrorist organization, seven months after the group overthrew Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and seized control of Damascus,

The United States on Monday announced it was revoking its designation as a “foreign terrorist organisation” of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a group once linked to al-Qaeda that toppled Syria’s government in December.

Washington's move follows the lifting of sanctions on Damascus after the ouster of the al-Assad government in December in a rebel offensive. View on euronews
