A new report by UN Women, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNODC, says approximately 85,000 women and girls were intentionally killed in 2023, with 60 per cent — over 51,000 — falling victim to intimate partners or family members.

Last year, one woman or girl was killed by a family member or intimate partner every 10 minutes, a new UN report shows.

The deadliest place for women is at home and 140 women and girls on average were killed by an intimate partner or family member per day last year, two U.N. agencies reported Monday.

Globally, 85,000 women and girls were killed intentionally in 2023, with 60% of the homicides committed by intimate partners or other family members, UN Women said. In a statement on Monday, UN Women said that 140 women and girls die daily at the hands of their partners or close relatives.
