Registering as a charity - Scouts
Understand if your Scout Unit needs to be registered as a charity. All Group, District and County/Area/Region (Scotland) Scout Units are independent charities. However, not all of them might be required to register as a charity. This depends on where the Scout Unit is based.
Scouts - Charity requirements
In Scotland, a Scout Group, District or Region may decide to register with OSCR as an Unincorporated Scottish Charity and, where registered, the members of the Group, District or Region Trustee Board are the charity trustees of the Group, District or Region.

All you need to do is fill in the relevant form, found on this page, approved by the appropriate Trustee Board. Once completed, you can send this into us at [email protected]. We’ll update the digital system for you, and file a permanent copy in our Heritage Collection.

Master something you love, or try something shiny and new. These badges allow a young person to gain whichever badge is appropriate to the level they have reached.
Your Registration Number with The Scout Association should always be shown alongside the charity name. If the charity is registered with the Charity Commission, its charity registration number must be shown as well . The charity’s principal address should be given; often this will be the Secretary's address.
