Marlee Matlin (born August 24, 1965) is an American actress, activist, and author. [1] Deaf since she was 18 months old, [2] Matlin is known for her portrayals of disabled women, and for her activism towards disabled individuals in Hollywood and other industries. [1]

Marlee Matlin has been a tireless advocate for the deaf community. She has used her fame and platform to raise awareness about the challenges faced by deaf and hard of hearing individuals.

Her busy acting schedule and frequent appearances (including a recent guest spot on Oprah, appearing with former Miss America, Heather Whitestone), must now be worked around her role as wife and mother of four. Marlee grew up in Morton Grove, a suburb of Chicago. Her parents learned of her hearing loss at the age of 18 months.
