Mar 26, 2012 · Seems 846 is the way to go if I stay with Supermicro because I really don't want to compromise cooling and the noise level out of the 216 chassis even at idle has an obnoxious whine to it. I do have the fans set to optimal per the IPMI console (you're right, couldn't find the settings in the BIOS).

Jul 16, 2020 · How much quieter is it to the standard 920W PSU. From watching some youtube videos, I know that replacing the Chassis fans make a big difference. I was hoping to but the 386 chassis alone and then buy 2 of the 920P-SQ, but seems I can't. Being home use only can't justify buying the chassis with the twin 920W PSU and then buy 2 of the SQ supplies.

When used with 12 drives in alternative rows in an 846 chassis, drives idle at around 32deg and go to around 35 degree at load. When used with 20 drives, drives idle at 37 degs and go up to 42 degs at load.

Dec 28, 2016 · Then the next issue is the back of the chassis, if you look, has no rear I/O panel- it's all PCIe slots- so you either need to cut that yourself or run cables through the slots. Otherwise the backplane in the chassis is the same SAS3 backplane in any other SAS3 supermicro chassis. You wouldn't have any issues using it.
